Meet Clive Terribile

CFO and Director of SiGMA Group

Clive Terribile is a fully qualified Accountant and presently holds the positions of CFO and Director of SiGMA Group. He graduated in 2005 from the University of Malta and began his career in auditing, spending three years with a big four firm as a Senior Auditor. This early experience not only exposed him to the financial workings of Malta’s largest companies but also took him abroad for a six-month stint in Rome, an experience that broadened his professional outlook.

He then transitioned into the corporate sector, gaining valuable finance experience across Malta’s travel and construction industries. In 2012, he entered the iGaming sector, where he assumed senior finance roles that both deepened his expertise and broadened his leadership perspective. This ultimately led him to SiGMA in 2019, where he now oversees the Group’s global finance function.

In his current role Clive leads a finance team spread across six international offices. His role involves overseeing the full finance function for the Group, which includes preparing annual budgets and quarterly forecasts, managing cash flow, and delivering monthly management accounts. He is also responsible for preparing financial modelling for new ventures and events, business performance analysis and strategic scenario planning to support decision-making at senior level.

On the operational side, he ensures smooth financial processes covering payroll, accounts payable and receivable, vendor management and reconciliations. His remit also includes VAT, Tax and statutory reporting filings across multiple jurisdictions as well as implementing financial policies, managing risk and fraud prevention, to ensure financial governance across the group. ‘It’s about striking a balance between the day-to-day operations and providing the strategic insights that help the business grow,’ he explains.

For Clive, the decision to pursue accountancy came naturally. ‘I’ve always been analytical — I enjoy working with numbers, spotting patterns and solving problems,’ he explains. The profession offered both a structured career path and the opportunity to understand how businesses operate and make strategic decisions.

Reflecting on his career, Clive identifies his early years at a big four firm as particularly formative. ‘That experience gave me a strong foundation in reporting, controls, and risk management, while also exposing me to how different companies structure their finances and strategies.’ His move into iGaming provided both commercial and operational exposure, equipping him with a deep understanding of a fast-evolving sector. These experiences helped him develop the blend of technical expertise and strategic vision required in his current role.

For those aspiring to senior positions, Clive underscores the importance of combining technical excellence with wider business acumen. While audit and financial reporting provide a solid foundation, he stresses that what differentiates leaders is the ability to translate financial insights into actionable strategy. Equally vital are adaptability, strong communication skills, and international exposure. With finance increasingly shaped by data analytics and technology, he believes openness to change has become a defining attribute for today’s leaders.

Clive also points to the evolving role of the CFO. “The modern CFO is no longer just a financial steward but a key strategic partner. With AI and advanced analytics, finance leaders are expected to generate insights that inform decisions across the business,” he says. This includes scenario modelling, forecasting, and identifying risks and opportunities earlier and more accurately than before. He notes that technology adoption, risk management, and governance have become central to the function, positioning the CFO as a driver of strategy alongside the CEO.

For those considering accountancy as a career, Clive’s advice is clear: it offers both stability and opportunity. Demand for skilled finance professionals remains consistent, but what makes the profession dynamic is its evolution. Today’s accountants are not confined to traditional reporting; they play a central role in steering businesses through complex, global challenges.

He concludes by saying that for those ready to embrace both security and adventure, accountancy remains a career with international scope and lasting relevance.
