Job Description & Responsibilities
As an Accountant, and forming part of the Finance team, you will play a crucial role in the financial operations of our company, ensuring accuracy and compliance in all financial transactions. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of accounting principles and regulations.
Responsibilities include:
• Extracting and reconciling data from the company's external insurance underwriting system
• Posting reconciled data into the accounting system accurately
• Issuing claims payments in a timely and accurate manner
• Posting receipts received into the accounting system
• Updating debtor and bank ledgers accordingly
• Actively participating in the credit control function to ensure timely collections
• Reconciling accounts regularly and updating ledgers accordingly
• Preparing daily bank reports for management
• Posting purchase invoices into the accounting system
• Processing payments to creditors accurately and on time
• Processing VAT returns, as required
• Assisting during audits and in audit preparation to ensure compliance and accuracy
• Preparing management accounts, as required
• Performing additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned within the accounting department
Qualifications required
Applicants must be in possession of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field or be in the process of obtaining an Accounting qualification.
Experience required
Experience within a similar position will be considered an asset.
Applicants must:
• Have knowledge of applicable laws and regulations including financial reporting standards
• Be able to analyse financial data and prepare reports, statements, and projections
• Demonstrate precision and attention to detail to ensure the accuracy of financial documents and compliance with relevant laws and regulations
• Have effective written and verbal communication skills
• Be proficient with accounting software (will be considered an asset)
• Be proficient with Microsoft Suite, including Microsoft Excel and Outlook
• Be able to identify issues and discrepancies in financial data and develop logical solutions
• Be capable of managing multiple tasks and deadlines
• Have strong organisational skills
