Job Description & Responsibilities
A boutique Maltese accounting and auditing firm combining local and international expertise to provide financial guidance and growth-focused advisory services is seeking a Head of Tax to join their growing team. In this role, you will lead the tax advisory function, providing strategic and technical guidance on all direct tax matters.
This hybrid role offers a salary of up to €75K, depending on experience.
Role & Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement direct tax strategies aligned with business and financial objectives
• Provide expert advice on corporate tax, capital gains tax, transfer pricing, withholding taxes, tax treaties, and other direct tax matters
• Guide tax planning, compliance, and risk management initiatives
• Oversee the preparation, review, and filing of direct tax returns, ensuring accuracy and adherence to regulations
• Advise on tax implications for mergers, acquisitions, reorganisations, and other corporate transactions
• Serve as the main point of contact for senior management, tax authorities, auditors, and external advisors
• Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders and external clients
• Represent the firm in tax audits, disputes, and negotiations with authorities
• Lead, mentor, and grow the direct tax advisory team
• Identify and mitigate tax risks through proactive advisory and compliance measures
• Ensure robust tax governance and internal controls
• Prepare reports and presentations for senior management and boards on tax risks, opportunities, and compliance
Qualifications required
Applicants must be fully qualified Accountants or have an equivalent taxation qualification.
Experience required
Applicants must have 2+ years of direct tax advisory experience in Malta.
The ideal candidate must:
• Have proven experience leading and mentoring a team
• Be fluent in English, both written and spoken
• Have in-depth knowledge of direct tax laws, regulations, and best practices
• Have experience with multinational companies and cross-border tax issues (will be a plus)
• Have a strong track record in managing complex tax projects, audits, and disputes
• Have excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Be able to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities efficiently
• Be proficient in tax software and MS Office
• Be an analytical and strategic thinker with a keen eye for detail and problem-solving skills
